Background

The Ezra Meeker Historical Society was founded in 1970 to save one of the town’s most significant and historic places, Meeker Mansion. We have recently changed our name to The Puyallup Historical Society at Meeker Mansion and are a private 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation which, owns, operates, and restores both the home and grounds.

BOB EZRA MEEKER w OX TEAM (OP) Ezra_MeekerThe goal of The Puyallup Historical Society at Meeker Mansion is to restore and preserve Meeker Mansion, to preserve and promote the historical aspects of the Puyallup Valley and its links to the Oregon Trail; To provide students and other visitors with programs, exhibits and events for a greater appreciation of local history and community; to serve as an education resource and repository for historical artifacts.

Membership

The Puyallup Historical Society at Meeker Mansion is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of our region. The society is made up of people like you, who are involved in its activities. Preserving the Meeker Mansion is one of those activities, but there are others as well. Admission to the Meeker Mansion is always free for members (with the exception of fundraising events). Members are entitled to 10% off items in the Gift Shop, as well as free admission to the Attic to Basement (Top to Bottom), tours of the house which are not usually open to the public and are held once a year. Remember that your dues are also tax-deductible.

Current Activities

  • Restoration of the ceilings and interior woodwork under a Washington State Grant.
  • Restoration of outdoor woodwork under a Washington Trust for Historic Preservation Grant.
  • Planning for the “Museum of the Valley.”
  • On-going effort to re-aquire the original grounds of the mansion and restore it’s prominence to the downtown.
  • Organizing and preserving artifacts of the Valley’s history, including photographs, textiles, and newspapers.
