Welcome to the volunteer program at Meeker Mansion, a cherished piece of Puyallup's history! Here, you can immerse yourself in the past while contributing to the preservation and education of our community's heritage. Volunteers are the backbone of our operations, and we have a variety of roles suited to different interests and skills.

Opportunities

  • ARCHIVING DEPARTMENT: Assist with cataloging, organizing, and preserving our extensive collection of historical documents and photographs.

  • RESEARCH: Contribute to ongoing historical research projects, helping to uncover and document the stories of Meeker Mansion.

  • EXHIBITS: Help design, set up, and maintain engaging exhibits that educate visitors about local history.

  • GROUNDS WORK: Participate in annual clean-ups, maintain flowerbeds, plant seasonal plants, prune, and weed to keep our grounds beautiful.

  • HOUSECLEANING: Keep the historic interior of the mansion in top condition through regular cleaning duties.

  • SPECIFIC PROJECTS: Engage in special projects focused on organizing and improving storage solutions for artifacts and records.

  • EVENT SETUP & TAKEDOWN: Assist in the preparation and dismantling of our events, ensuring everything runs smoothly.

  • EVENT PARTICIPATION: Be part of our special events, from historical reenactments to community gatherings.

  • DOCENT: (Hosting Tours): Guide visitors through the mansion, sharing its rich history with enthusiasm and knowledge.

  • BARTNDING: Serve as a bartender for our special events, offering period-appropriate beverages while interacting with guests.

  • FURNITURE & ARTIFACT RESTORATION: Work with our conservation team to restore and maintain our collection of antique furniture and artifacts.

  • TEXTILE REPAIRS: Help preserve our textile collection through careful repair and maintenance.

  • DIGITIZING & SCANNING: Assist in the digital preservation of documents and images, making our history accessible to a broader audience.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Age: Volunteers must be 18 years or older.

  • Application: All prospective volunteers must complete and submit a [Volunteer Application Form](https://x.com/i/grok?text=Volunteer%20Application%20Form) (#).

  • Resume: Provide a resume including references and details of prior work or volunteer experience.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 35 pounds. And ability to walk up and down stairs

  • Time Commitment: Commit to minimum shifts of 2-4 hours and report hours worked.

  • Standards of Practice: Agree to and follow all standards set by the Puyallup Historical Society at Meeker Mansion, a non-profit corporation dedicated to preserving our historic home.
